A Friendly Welcome
A very friendly & helpful host making us feel very welcome and feel comfortable in using their amenities. The room was a bit too cosy and lacking proper cooking facilities, although we managed. We were worried about the cooking heat and steam on the light fittings in the kitchen area, we thought it a safety issue. Unfortunately for us Oahu was going through a unusual heat and with only a fan we were roasting at night while in bed. I think if we were in the separate accommodation it would have been better for us. An ideal location for travelling around the island and the local beach.October 2017
Staying here was relaxing and had everything i needed. I was able to do laundry with no problems. Beautiful and accommmodating hosts. Wpuld definitely recommend.October 2017
Trip into paradise
We had a wonderful week by Barbara. The apartment was very nice and clean and the pool perfect to relax. Kailua is a nice little city and ideal for trips to different destinations on Oahu. We wish we come back some dayOctober 2017
The room is quiet and private, about three blocks from one of the best beaches on Oahu. Kailua is a nice town with shopping close by and plenty of places to eat. Margaret is a welcoming and helpful hostess. We felt like locals.October 2017
Truly nice place
Our stay at Tropical Gardens home was truly a nice one. The best part of course was the hospitality of Margaret, who waited up for our late arrival. The place is so pleasant and accommodating. I loved the pool and the beautiful back yard, and the neighboring guests in the cabin were genuine. Margaret even accepted our nephew for a night without charge. Such a gracious woman! The town atmosphere of Kailua was wonderful and the beach not far away, and the main highway for the east coast not far either. The town has plenty of shopping and restaurants. I would stay here again without a problem - and with slightly bigger kitchen facilities my wife and I could even see ourselves staying a month or more. Thanks, Margaret! Mahalo!October 2017
Kailua garden studio
We were lucky enough to stay here for 4 nights on the way back from 6 weeks traveling. It was a perfect place to relax in the beautiful private garden setting. The swimming pool was perfect size, perfect temperature and it is where we spent most of our time. Barbara is a very warm and helpful host. Thanks for having us.October 2017
Nice people, good location, not very private
My partner and I had a lovely stay in the studio-- it's a great location (walking distance to the beach), the owners are very kind and helpful, the bed is comfortable and the room is clean, and I just love Kailua. Everything we needed was there and accessible nearby. We weren't home very much while we were there (we only stayed 3 nights), but while we were we slept well and I wish we had had a chance to enjoy the pool if we'd been home more. The only challenge was that the studio is just between the owners' back door and a second (also attached) studio that is rented to a small family of four. This meant very little privacy-- if you want to keep your blinds open (which you will, for the light and the breeze--it's Hawaii for goodness sake!), you are likely to see/hear and be seen/heard by at least one or two of the other members of the household. We were there for 3 nights and not home much but still accidentally flashed the neighbors a couple of times-- sorry guys! :) And I'm sure we heard each other's activities a couple of times as well.October 2017
My partner and I had such a great, relaxing time. The room was cozy and inviting, and we were so close to the beach. We had plenty of privacy from other guests and great access to the pool all day and night. Overall, an ideal way to spend our reading week and get away from the grey winter weather in Vancouver.October 2017
Very peaceful and quiet!!!!
Dear Barbara, I had the best time at the Tropical Garden Studio. Margaret and David were the best host possible. Margaret was always helpful and happy to help with anything i needed. Her youthful exuberance was uplifting to say the least:) I would definitely stay again. Very peaceful and quiet!!!!Would recommend it to everyone.:) Mahalo and Aloha ?October 2017
We totally recommended it!
We stayed four days at this beautiful cottage. The peaceful location is very near the beach and the downtown. We enjoyed a lot the pool. Margaret is very kind and gave us the best hospitality with a lot of good advice in order to visit the island. It was perfect, our stay could not be better.October 2017
The studio is pretty much as described by others, a little rustic but very well equipped and comfortable, despite some lack of privacy due to its situation at the corner of the house. The bed was comfortable with good cotton linens, the shower newly tiled, plenty of towels and little extras. The location is ideal: equidistant to the fabulous beach and downtown with all necessities and comforts of home, including the library, as well as the farmers' market a couple of blocks down the street. We enjoyed having our meals sitting in the lovely garden, surrounded by birds, mokos (geckos all over the place), being part of a residential neighbourhood which was very quiet at night. Margaret and David are the most gracious hosts, always helpful and informative, without being intrusive. Margaret cheerfully waited up for a extremely late arrival and even expertly removed a tick from my spouse's arm. We stayed three weeks and were sorry to have to leave, but certainly hope to return.October 2017
Good budget friendly option
We stayed for a week and went with a "condo" rental in order to save some money on accomodations and spend it having fun instead. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. The house is a great location and it's very easy to get around. Close to the beach and restaurants. We barely used our car and generally walked and biked everywhere. The room: It's serviceable and clean. Lots of linens available and it's nice to have some extras like a-tips and sunscreen there. It was also nice that some juices, coffee and fruit was probived in the fridge. However, no A/C so it got really hot and it was too windy at night to leave the patio door open as it would blow our blinds all over the room. I wish they would change the vertical blinds to actual curtains as there is very little privacy in the corner room since the path goes right by your windows. The privacy issue was my biggest problem with this property. Amenities: The pool is nice and quiet. A good option when you want some quiet away from the people at the beach. A couple lounge chairs would be a good addition. The bikes are usable but are in serious need of some maintenance. Just be aware of their condition before you use them and pedal out into traffic. No issues with the wifi. It was great to be able to do some laundry as well. Overall, we had a nice stay. I think it was good value for the money. Some minor changes would make this property so much better but it's still very nice.October 2017
People are friendly & you get what you pay for
We enjoyed our stay here and ultimately you get what you pay for. We opted to spend our money on the island and not on our accommodations, hence our choice here. Was not poor, was not great, just average. Pool was nice. Privacy at night (changing etc) is not great, make sure your lights are out as people in the other suite at this location walk by the window and can see directly in even with the blinds across the window. Did not like this part. Otherwise, the price is hard to beat. Really wish we did not have to screw around with cash and cheques; it would have been much nicer to just pay all online.October 2017
a simple charming place, near beach, in a residential neighborhood.
The room is simple, the neighborhood real, and the beach near. If you need a Waikiki beachfront hotel, this isn't your place. However, if you would like a little time away from the noise and clamor of Waikiki, this town and place may just fit. Part of the charm is the friendly owner with her easy laugh, Margaret, as other reviewers have mentioned. Also, though he mostly smiles and waves (as he's getting deaf) her recently retired Opthamologist husband will entertain you with his backflips and bottom dives in the nice salt water pool you cam ise. Oh, btw, he's 94 years young. A simple, quirky, friendly place with a nice pool in a pleasant bedroom beach town with no hotels, not tons of tourists, but actual locals and good restaurants. Not for everyone, but a lot to like for many people.October 2017
I loved my stay at your property. Everything, it was affordable, private, clean, and friendly hosts. The pool and beautiful flowers were and added pleasure. The breeze through the room was lovely! I have friends who are from Hawaii and return regularly, they are excited to contact you as well. You will meet Brenda soon, she is planning to drop by to meet you and if possible see one of your rooms. Thank you for everything.October 2017
Affordable paradise it is
It starts with a smile from the owner, a tour of the property, seeing the nice salt (very light) water pool. Then you open your fridge and discover some good coffee and many cans of fruit juice to accompany the morning pastry waiting for you next to the bowl of fruits. The internet was good and the use of bicycle fun to check out the action at the beach or checking out the quite neighborhood. And it ended with a hug and a please come back from Margaret.October 2017
A Quick Getaway
I stayed at the Tropical Garden studio on a business trip recently. I was looking to get away from all of the crowds at Waikiki. I couldn't have asked for anything more. From the beginning, Margaret was so sweet and welcoming and even helped me find my way around. The studio was cozy and had a great location, just a short walk to Kailua beach. Plenty of shops and restaurants nearby. Beautiful flowers all around and it had just enough privacy too. All the amenities of your basic hotel including TV, wifi, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, etc. I would highly recommend it for 1-2 guests looking for something different!October 2017
Centrally located studio in Kailua
The Garden Studio is a pleasant little living space for two people within easy walking distance to Kailua Beach and downtown stores. Our host was very responsive to our requests, which were minimal. I would recommend it to my friends.October 2017
We had a wonderful time in the studio. The host was amazing and super helpful with all of our questions. We were close to several beaches and had great access to the entire island. The room was comfortable and had a lot of extra items for us to use.October 2017
Beautiful pool and garden! Room was adequate with lots of things needed for life as a local.October 2017
Great room for a great price!
We had a wonderful time staying at D&D's in Kailua. The room was a nice size and very clean, as well as being in a great location to the beach, restaurants and shops. Detlev and Dayna were welcoming and kind offering advice and recommendations whenever it was needed. Five days went by way too fast, can't wait to go back!October 2017
Bay view, Haiku
Stay at Clarita's home was great. Nice, tidy & cozy rooms. Beautiful view from bedroom. Haiku is a quiet but magic place, loved it!October 2017
We really enjoyed the hospitality at the tropical studio. Geat pool, beautiful gardens, comfortable room and perfect location. Thank you for a wonderful stay. Look forward to returning again.October 2017
Wonderful, peaceful stay!
My husband and I spent 3 wonderful days at the Tropical Garden Studio. It was just what we were looking for - comfortable, peaceful, quiet, near the beach but also a great location to get to know the "locals". Our hostess, Barbara, was so helpful with providing directions and suggestions of places to visit. Everything was within a quick walk - the beach, restaurants, and the neighborhood farmer's market at the school. It was relaxing and beautiful! We hope to return soon!October 2017
Our hosts were very helpful and gave us plenty of valuable information about the area, which we really appreciated. The studio is very quiet and overlooks a beautiful garden. We could help ourselves to Mangoes that were falling off the tree by the dozen. The pool was very nice and refreshing. The studio itself is small and quite cluttered and fairly rustic. It doesn't offer too much privacy as there is another rental cottage in the garden with people walking past. It's definitely not the Hilton but we found it fairly comfortable and quiet and centrally located.October 2017
